Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI)
The mission of the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) is to combat poverty and exclusion; to strengthen the development capacity of disadvantaged communities; to support initiatives for peace, human rights and equity; to mobilize resources and promote the exchange of know-how. Through the Uniterra program, jointly managed with World University Service of Canada (WUSC), CECI offers Canadian the opportunity to work in a number of fields including human rights and democratic development, and economic and social development programs. The duration and conditions of the overseas assignments vary, depending on the type of work and the needs of the partner organizations. CECI is active in Africa, in Central America, in the Andes, in the Caribbean (Haiti), in Asia and in the Balkans.
Canadian Crossroads International
Canadian Crossroads International brings individuals, organizations and communities in Canada and in developing countries into PARTNERSHIPS to REDUCE POVERTY, to FIGHT HIV/AIDS and to ASSERT HUMAN RIGHTS globally. CCI builds the capacities of organizations in developing countries and, in so doing, strengthens whole communities and fosters solidarity internationally. As our name suggests, Canadian Crossroads International facilitates the coming together of people and organizations. Through international volunteering and partnership in Canada and the global South, CCI leverages skills, expertise and resources necessary to address these global challenges. CCI works with local organizations in West Africa, Southern Africa and the Andean region of South America that are combating extreme poverty, women’s inequality and AIDS.
Canadian Executive Service Organization
The Canadian Executive Service Organization is a not-for-profit organization that helps to build proud independent communities. More than 3,000 distinguished Volunteer Advisers (VAs) on the CESO roster share their professional experience by serving as mentors, advisers and trainers to our clients and partners at home and abroad. VAs, all seasoned experts in their respective fields, are posted in communities to promote development, build economic capacity and support sustainable businesses. Every year, CESO completes approximately 1,500 assignments in collaboration with Canadian Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal and international clients. CESO’s international operations receive funding support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). CESO’s Aboriginal activities are sustained through funding from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC). In addition, funding from corporations, foundations and individuals drives the efforts of CESO at home and abroad.
Oxfam-Québec
Oxfam-Québec is dedicated to supporting its partners and colleagues in developing countries in the design and implementation of sustainable solutions to poverty and injustice. The organization also mobilizes the people of Quebec in order to allow the expression of their solidarity.
SUCO
SUCO is an international cooperation agency whose mission is to support sustainable community development and promote international solidarity. Our work primarily involves sending volunteer cooperants to support overseas projects whose needs have been identified by the local communities. SUCO programming helps to strengthen participatory democracy and local power, in order to counteract all forms of exclusion. SUCO supports communities so that they can take charge of their own development—an essential condition for sustainable development. SUCO is developing projects in partnership with non-governmental organizations in Latin America (Nicaragua, Honduras and Peru), Africa (Mali) and the Caribbean (Haiti). Over the years, SUCO has acquired an excellent reputation among international cooperation agencies, as well as credibility with major funders.
CUSO - VSO
CUSO and VSO Canada have merged to form CUSO-VSO, one of North America’s largest international development organizations that works through volunteers. Since 1961, CUSO and VSO Canada have sent over 12,000 volunteers abroad to support solutions on complex development challenges. Together, the new agency can send more volunteers to work in solidarity with more partner groups in more countries. CUSO-VSO is the North American member of the VSO Federation. The Federation is a worldwide partnership of Voluntary Service Organizations (VSOs) based in the U.K., the Netherlands, Kenya and the Philippines, as well as Canada. Together, these VSO entities make up the world’s largest non-governmental, international development organization that works through volunteers. With CUSO joining the VSO international family, the federation now works in 44 countries.
WUSC
WUSC is an international development agency whose mission is to foster human development and global understanding through education and training. We are unique in our ability to link postsecondary students, faculty and leaders from colleges and universities throughout Canada with development initiatives across the globe. International volunteer cooperation is one of our main tools for delivering development results. Through the Uniterra programme, run jointly with CECI, WUSC recruits volunteers for development projects and supports the public engagement activities in Canada. Our development projects focus on vocational training, water and sanitation, post-secondary education, community development, public administration, human rights and law. WUSC works in collaboration with local partners in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Peru, Haiti and the Balkans to deliver meaningful results.
