What is a Global Citizen anyway?

A Global Citizen is someone like you - someone who wants to make the world a more just place, to help eliminate poverty, and discrimination, who cares about the environment, and much more. Ultimately a Global Citizen is someone who cares about our world and the people in it, and is willing to work for change. Whether you choose to volunteer overseas or work in your own community, as a Global Citizen you are part of a global movement to create change.

Why should I add my content to this site?

Because you are someone who has worked on the front lines of development.

As a volunteer who has worked overseas you have been on the forefront of the world's development struggles. You can give a voice and a face to people you worked in partnership with, and bring the community that you volunteered in to life so other Canadians can learn about the people behind the statistics we so often hear.

As a volunteer here at home you are someone who has engaged other Canadians about issues like extreme poverty, AIDS and the rights of women in developing communities. This is a chance to learn about what others are doing around the country, and maybe connect with others in your local community.

What's this interactive map all about?

Global Citizens Connect is our way to demonstrate the range and scope of the work being done by Global Citizens around the world. It also displays overseas volunteer opportunities currently being offered by the 9 partner organizations who are part of the Global Citizens for Change coalition. You can filter the map by selecting past postings by year or organization, or current opportunities by organization. Just click on any pin to view the Global Citizens associated with it, then follow the link to individual profile pages. Also, if you look hard, you will fund that once you are a member of the Global Citizens for Change community, you yourself are represented by one of those pins so that others may find you and start interacting with you.
