Over 38 Million People around the World Stand Up

Over 38.7 million people, in 110 countries have broken the Guinness World Record – set last year at 23.5 million - for the largest number of people to “STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY” in 24 hours.

The “Stand Up and Speak Out” record attempt took place over the 16th and 17th of October and was jointly organized by the United Nations Millennium Campaign the Global Call to Action against Poverty, and local participation with groups like Make Poverty History and Global Citizens for Change.

The challenge saw millions of people standing up against poverty, and inequality and in support of the Millennium Development Goals.

In Canada more than 74,000 people participated including the 3291 returned volunteers and supporters who registered on this site.

To everyone who took the time to recognize the growing crisis of global poverty thank you all for standing up and speaking out.
